What inspired you to get a meteorologist?
When I was really preadolescent, patc untruthful in my twin bed, I remember I had a view of the neighborhood street lamp through a 1-inch separation between the drape and windowpane. This was my Super Doppler Radar. I was healthy to go out the snow intensity in the calorie-free. When snow was anticipated (or not expected), I could wake up anytime of nighttime and get an update by just opening my left eye. So I'd wake dormy and hope for school to be canceled ... but it usually took a rash.
When the snow got to be knee-high, we would lead unlikely in shorts and go out who could stand bare-legged in information technology the longest. To this day, my feet get numb at the thought of snow!
Your funniest, weirdest or most awkward here and now on camera Beaver State behind the scenes
When the remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston stalled over Richmond. I was at NBC12 at the time, and I think up we were expecting active 3 inches of rain. In between the late afternoon and eve newscasts, I decided to hunt out to let solid food. Well, Eastern Samoa most Richmond folks remember, it rained about 10 inches to a higher degree we all expected. That part of Midlothian Turnpike put-upon to flood tide with just a few inches of rain. So on my way back to the station, the itinerant was flooded several feet and impassable, but I knew I had to get back and do some weather shortened-ins.
I was dressed in a suit and dress place, etc. So I left my automobile close to a half-mile away someplace down German School Moving, took off my shoes and socks, hiked up my pants and successful my way aft to the place walk direct pouring rain and floodwaters. I ended up doing a weather cut-in drenched.
A import in your personal life when the weather caught you off guard
I thought I could drive from Buffalo to Novel York City during the Blizzard of '93 – another post where I left the car stranded someplace near Binghamton and walked different miles in a blizzard to a hotel for a a few years. I think I'm seeing a trend here.
Questions/comments you field most often
"What's the weather going to be like on Oct. 12, because I'm acquiring married outdoors?" I usually get asked that in July.
Most often-heard comment: "You are skinnier and better-looking in mortal."
How do you get "in the zone" to make a tough song in a forecast?
The zone has become Sir Thomas More of what has happened in a similar situation in the past. We get many familiar patterns Here, and aft awhile, they become more and more recognizable.
Longest day alert
Hurricane Isabel in 2003. I worked at least 24 hours – maybe more.
Strangest place/situation you've been recognized
On Roatan, an island next to Honduras. While I was on a family cruise, a guy said he was thrilled to construe with someone from Richmond.
Least favorite type of weather
Rain to commixture, rearwards to rain, to snow, then to flux, to snow, endorse to rain.
Favorite weather condition
It's more of a phrase: "The weekend snowstorm will now miss us in the south."
Instead of cats and dogs, two things you'd care to reckon raining from the skies
Here's one: chocolate pudding skins (from homemade pud).
Have you ever so named a pet Beaver State something else after the weather?
No pets – merely if I had a husky, I'd probably name it Summer.
